CBA Project launches activities in Chernivtsi, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi and Lviv regions

In the last week of March 2008 series of regional seminars was held in Chernivtsi (on 25th March), Ternopil (on 26th March), Khmelnytskyi (on 27th March), and Lviv (on 28 March) aimed at presenting Community Based Approach to Local Development (CBA) Project in presence of about 70 local stakeholders including officials of Oblast state administrations and self-government, key departments of OSAs, heads of village councils, representatives from NGOs, and regional mass media.

Presentation of the CBA Project in Chernivetska oblast attracted keen interest of oblast leadership /self-government, and community. Before the seminar was held International Project Manager Jaysingh Sah had a meeting with oblast leadership, where deputy head of Chernivetska Oblast State Administration Mr Pavlyuk showed his awareness of positive experience of community lead projects in the framework of Crimea Integration and Development Programme. Moreover, oblast leadership expressed their intent to sign Partnership Agreement with UNDP/ CBA Project and support the CBA Project implementation in the region..

Deputy head of Ternopilska Oblast State Administration Mr Flissak specified the value of community based development approach for sustainable development, and approaching of Ukrainian standards to European norms. Progress in mentioned above direction is an obligatory condition for Ukrainian integration to EU. In confirmation of their content to cooperate in the framework of the CBA Project, Partnership Agreement was signed between Ternopilska OSA and UNDP.

On behalf of Khmelnytska oblast, deputy heads of oblast administration and council greeted EU/ UNDP initiative to support development of village/ town communities. The Project is particularly urgent for Khmelnitska oblast due to one of oblast leadership activities priorities is rural territories development. While discussing 5 Project priorities representatives from rayons shared their experience of progressive and relatively cheap energy saving technologies implementation in some oblast communities. Similar projects availability gives the possibility to spend saved funds on financing social programmes etc.

Regional seminar in Lvivsla oblast was held with Temporary acting Head of oblast administration Mr Kmit and started with signing of Partnership Agreement between Lvivska Oblast State Administration, oblast council and UNDP. Sharing oblast positive experience of international programmes implementation, representatives from oblast authorities said with certainty that united activities of communities, local government /self-government in Lvivska oblast will have notable results, and continue after the Project completion. Special Project value lies for oblast authorities in work with communities for mobilization and self-organization.
