Chernivetska oblast is an western part of Ukraine. It borders with Romania and Moldova and such regions as Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi and Vinnytsia. Chernivtsi region is the smallest oblast in Ukraine, its’ territory occupies 1.3% of the total area of Ukraine with a population of about 0.9 mln. About 43% of the region population lives in cities and towns.
Chernivetska oblast includes 11 rayons, 11 cities, 8 urban villages, 398 villages.
The largest cities and towns of the region are Chernivtsi, Storozhynets, Khotyn, Novodnistrovsk and Sokyriany.
Chernivtsi region is both developed in industrial and agricultural sectors. There are such industrial branches as engineering, forest and wood industry, producing building materials, light and food industry. Very important for the Chernivtsi region is also forested area, as a main source of timber and other products of vegetation.
The EU/UNDP CBA Project Implementation in Chernivetska Oblast
Implementation of the first phase of the EU/UNDP CBA Project commenced in Chernivtsi region during August 2008. First phase was succeeded by a second phase in July 2011. Over these two phases, 41854 men, women and children of the region have benefitted from improvement in 28 schools/kindergartens, 4 health posts, 5 water supply, 8 street lightning. This happened through joint effort of the citizens, oblast/rayon/local level governments, the EU/UNDPCBA Project and private sponsors.
Third Phase of the EU/UNDPCBA Project
The Third phase of CBA III was initiated in Chernivetska oblast with regional launching and signing of MoU which took place on September 18th, 2014. The oblast received a quota of 8 rayons for standard\replication components.
Rayons selected for the EU/UNDP CBA-III: Hertsaivskyi, Kelmenetskyi, Khotynskyi, Putylskyi, Storozhynetskyi, Novoselytskyi, Kitsmanskyi, Zastavnytskyi.
Microprojects approved as of 7 April, 2016: 22 micro projects (1 – health, 16 – energy saving, 2 – energy efficiency, 3 – business start-ups). Around 32,000 persons will benefit from implementation of these initiatives. Total budget for the initiatives is approx. UAH 8 mln (approx. USD 295,000 – 1 USD = 27.09 UAH). EU/UNDP CBA Project will provide around UAH 5.8 mln (approx. USD 214,000).
