Khersonska oblast background
Khersonska oblast is located on southern part of Ukraine. It borders with such regions as Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv and Zaporizhzhia, and also with Crimea on the south. It has also access to Sea of Azov and Black Sea. Kherson region territory occupies 4.7% of the total area of Ukraine with a population of about 1.07 mln. About 61% of the region population lives in cities and towns.
Khersonska oblast includes 18 rayons, 9 cities, 31 urban villages, 658 villages.
The largest cities and towns of the region are Kherson, Nova Kakhovka, Kakhovka, Tsiurupynsk and Skadovsk.
Kherson region is an important agricultural region of Ukraine. It is important area for growing high quality wheat, corn, sunflower, melons and gourds. In addition it has developed food processing sector. The industrial complex of the region is dominated by industries producing food, paper and cardboard, building materials, hardware, machinery, electricity, rubber and plastic products.
The EU/UNDP CBA Project Implementation in Kherson Oblast
Implementation of the first phase of the EU/UNDP CBA Project commenced in Kherson region during May 2008. First phase was succeeded by a second phase in July 2011. Over these two phases, 107192 men, women and children of the region have benefitted from improvement in 62 schools/kindergartens, 17 health posts, 19 water supply, 6 street lightning and so on. This happened through joint effort of the citizens, oblast/rayon/local level governments, the EU/UNDP CBA Project and the private sponsors.
Energy Efficiency in Kherson oblast
Third phase of the EU/UNDP CBA Project was initiated in Khersonska oblast with regional launching and signing of MoU which took place on September 26th, 2014. The oblast received a quota of 8 rayons for standard\replication components.
Rayons selected for the EU/UNDP CBA-III Project: Beryslavskyi, Nyzhniosirohozkyi, Ivanivskyi, Novovorontsovskyi, Kalanchatskyi, Velykolepetyskyi, Verhniohoratskyi, Chaplynskyi.
Micro projects approved as of 6 January 2016: 28 micro projects (19 – energy saving, 2 – water supply, 3 – energy efficiency, 4 – business start-ups). Around 19,900 persons will benefit from implementation of these initiatives. Total budget for the initiatives is approx. UAH 9.5 mln (approx. USD 428,000). The EU/UNDP CBA Project will provide around UAH 6.9 mln (approx. USD 311,000).
