Rivne region is northern part of Ukraine. It borders with such regions as Volyn, Lviv, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi and Zhytomyr, and also with Belarus on the north. Rivne region territory occupies 3.3% of the total area of Ukraine with a population of about 1.16 mln. About 48% of the region population lives in cities and towns.
Rivne region includes 16 rayons, 11 cities, 16 urban villages, 999 villages.
The largest cities and towns of the region are Rivne, Kuznetsovsk, Dubno, Kostopil and Sarny.
Rivne region has developed industry and agriculture. Climate conditions are favourable for growing the majority of crops, including competitive (rape, cereal crops, wheat, rye, corn, sugar beets). Among other regions, Rivne is popular with production of linen fabrics, nonwovens, chipboard, plywood and chemical fertilizers.
The EU/UNDP CBA Project Implementation in Rivne Region
Implementation of the first phase of the EU/UNDP CBA Project commenced in Rivne region during February 2008. First phase was succeeded by a second phase in July 2011. Over these two phases, 97 800 men, women and children of the region have benefitted from improvement in 64 schools/kindergartens, 23 health posts, 3 water supply, 6 street-lightning and so on. This happened through joint effort of the citizens, oblast/rayon/local level governments, the EU/UNDP CBA Project and the private sponsors.
Third phase of the EU/UNDP CBA Project in Rivne region
The third phase of the EU/UNDP CBA Project was initiated in Rivne region with regional launching and signing of MoU which took place on September 29th, 2014. The region received a quota of 8 rayons for standard\replication components. Besides, urban component of the EU/UNDP CBA Project will be implemented in 2 cities (Kostopil and Dubno).
Rayons selected for the EU/UNDP CBA-III Project: Koretskyi, Volodymyretskyi, Mlynivskyi, Kostopilskyi, Dubenskyi, Bereznivskyi, Ostrozkyi, Demydivskyi.
Micro project approved as of 25 March 2016: 28 micro projects (3 – health, 18 – energy saving, 2 – water supply, 5 – energy efficiency). More than 31,400 persons will benefit from implementation of these initiatives. Total budget for the initiatives is around UAH 10.5 mln (approx. USD 473,000). The EU/UNDP CBA Project will provide approx. UAH 6 mln (USD 270,270).
2 cities supported for partnership in the EU/UNDP CBA Project within the framework of the urban development component – Kostopil and Dubno.
Microprojects approved as of 25 March 2016: 17 micro-projects (6 in Kostopil and 11 in Dubno). Around 1,300 persons will benefit from implementation of these initiatives. Total budget for the initiatives is around UAH 6.5 mln (approximately USD 293 ths). The EU/UNDP CBA Project will provide approx. UAH 3.1 mln (more than USD 140 ths).
